Exciting New Research Development

For over a decade the HE sector alongside a number of government initiatives have sought to widen participation in Higher Education for some of the most under-represented groups in society. Clearly there are a number of challenges in achieving this. One such group that are the most widely under-represented in HE are the travelling community. The challenges to accessing such a group and conducting primary research are many.

Cosmos, has been commissioned to undertake research to address this very challenge. Through interrogative research which will take on an immersive multi-method approach, we will work with the travelling community, (young people and parents). This unique research project we will seek to understand the impact of educational initiatives they have participated in. It will also explore their attitudes, aspirations, motivations and barriers to accessing education and progressing to HE.
