National FE Student Segmentation:  FE Insight & Diagnostic Tool Package

National FE Student Segmentation:  FE Insight & Diagnostic Tool Package

Do You Want to Know What Students in Further Education Really Need in Your Region?

A national study of FE students to enable a richer understanding of FE student characteristics and needs.
The study is based on over 35,000 responses from students in both FE colleges and sixth forms.
Four distinct segments were found during the research.

The main aim of the study was to identify and aggregate key groups of FE students so that their needs could be fully understood and met, in relation to progression and transition into higher education, and career pathways.

FE Segmentation Diagnostics Tool:
Assign student segments (access for 1 year)
The FE Segmentation Diagnostic Tool will allow you to accurately assign students, on the ground, with their segment. This will help you to target interventions more accurately and understand the real needs of students when delivering interventions in real time. The algorithm running the Tool is based on the results from a national FE segmentation study.
  • Assign students with their FE segments
  • Live results
  • Flexible solution: segment allocation for large or small student groups
  • Results automatically generated
  • Segments accurately assigned to students on the ground
  • Intuitive online platform
  • Algorithm based on a national survey dataset of over 35,000 responses
Survey FAQs
You can assign students to segments via. a segment allocation survey. You can create this survey by following a few simple steps on the FE Segmentation Diagnostic Tool.
How do I distribute the segment allocation survey to students?

An online survey link and QR code will be automatically created for each segment allocation survey. The link can be shared separately with students. Students also have the option to scan the unique QR code for the survey which will take them to the online survey.

I am concerned about survey fatigue, how many questions do students need to fill in?

We understand that students sometimes fatigue of survey requests, which is why there are only 8 questions to fill in!

Where do the results show from my segment allocation survey?

Navigate to the home page for the FE Segmentation Diagnostic Tool and select ‘View Existing Surveys’. Results from all the segment allocation surveys you have created will show here.
