That quote from my recent blog for FE Conversations has stayed with me all month. It captures so much of what we have been hearing in our Beyond Guesswork workshops, and that is, that there are still assumptions about what students know and need when it comes to effective support; and how we often assume students know more than they actually do.
April has been a month of sharing knowledge. We have had close to 100 registrants for our workshop series, and the final session takes place this Thursday. So far, we have explored why static demographic data doesn’t provide enough insight when targeting interventions, and the value of designing outreach and support around student needs, motivations and lived realities.
There has been a real energy in the ‘virtual room’, with reflections on how our sector can shift from broad assumptions to targeted, insight-led approaches.

No more guesswork. Just real insights you can act on.
We have also been trying out new ways to bring our segmentation research to life, including a quick, interactive guide where you can test out the student profiles for yourself.

My new blog, “It’s Still Not That Simple”: Conversations from the FE Frontline”, is live now. It captures some of the realities practitioners shared with me about the current FE landscape and what that means for how we design student support.
Spoiler: it is complicated, but change is possible.
Thanks, as ever, for being part of this community. Until next time..
